Essay topics

17 teachers share essay topics their students have chosen that have made them lose faith in humanity.

Teachers really put up with a lot.

While children are known to say whatever they think about, they can also write anything. Creative writing classes or “free writing” exercises are usually good icebreakers for any English class, but give a group of students the freedom of movement to make whatever they want. they want is definitely a risk.

What is considered “fiction” can quickly become a very obvious personal and autobiographical essay, and if it is inappropriate, teachers are put in an awkward position.

Are you telling parents? Or, depending on the age of the student, do you face the student? Can you give someone a bad rating just because their content is really weird?

When a recent Reddit the user asked, “English teachers, what topic of an essay ‘write about anything’ made you lose hope in humanity? Teachers and professors were ready to share.

1. NO, “monroestahr”.

I teach literature in college and deal mainly with freshmen and sophomores. For our free writing unit, one of the homework required students to write any original story based on your favorite fictional genre. So one of my students wanted to do horror. I said great! It’s also one of my favorites. Become crazy.

Finally, the homework is done and I write it down at home. I get to the kid with the horror story and it’s about a serial killer who stalks women. OK whatever. Nothing that I have never seen before.

But then the story goes into long and excruciating detail about the next victim this killer plans to stalk / rape / murder: a petite blonde in her 30s who teaches English. And I happen to be a little blonde in my thirties who, well … yeah.

I didn’t report it or anything because it was a creative exercise. I didn’t rate it unfairly either. But seriously, I could never look that kid in the eye again.
